Impact of Payment Transformation in Hawaii

Dr. Navathe Provides Insights on the Impact of Payment Transformation in Hawaii

In the July 2nd, 2019 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, an article authored by Dr. Amol Navathe, a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, presented the results of payment transformation in Hawaii. Dr. Navathe concluded that primary care physicians in Hawaii who participated in value-based payment models – a model called Population-based Payments for Primary Care or 3PC —  showed a statistically significant improvement in quality, with no increase in costs.

In this 2-minute audio, Dr. Navathe discusses the findings of his recently published JAMA article, in terms of quality improvements, costs and physician practice transformation. He also discusses the relevance that the Hawaii payment transformation program has on a national level, especially in light of the newly released CMS primary care payment models.
